Gunmen in Pakistan kill K2 Times reporter

New York, October 17, 2018–The Committee to Protect Journalists today called on Pakistani authorities to investigate and promptly bring to justice the killers of journalist Sohail Khan. Khan, a reporter for the Urdu daily K2 Times, was shot dead while driving in Haripur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, yesterday, according to multiple news reports.

Peru mayoral candidate Daniel Urresti acquitted of Hugo Bustíos murder

Medellín, October 4, 2018–Peru’s National Criminal Chamber today acquitted former interior minister and current mayoral candidate Daniel Urresti of murder charges for the 1988 killing of war correspondent Hugo Bustíos, according to news reports. A lawyer for the Bustíos family said they would appeal, the reports said.

Slovakia charges three people with murder of investigative journalist Ján Kuciak

Berlin, September 28, 2018–Slovak police today charged three people with the murder of investigative journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancée, Martina Kušnírová, according to news reports. The unnamed suspects were among eight people arrested in a raid yesterday, according to reports. The other five were released today, according to a prosecutor cited in news reports.
