New York, March 10, 2009–The Committee to Protect Journalists mourns the deaths today of‎ Al-Baghdadia TV correspondent Haidar Hashim Suhail and the channel’s cameraman Suhaib Adnan, who were among more than 30 people who were killed when a suicide bomber wearing an explosive belt detonated himself in the town of Abu Ghraib, south of Baghdad. 

New York, March 6, 2009–A delegation from the Committee to Protect Journalists met yesterday with the Sri Lankan Ambassador to the United States and called for a comprehensive and transparent investigation into a series of recent attacks against the press that may have involved government forces. 

Dear Mr. President: We are writing to express our concern over the lack of progress in the police investigation into the brutal murder of journalist Francis Kainda Nyaruri. In January, CPJ urged the police to investigate Nyaruri’s murder, whose slashed and decapitated body was found January 29 in Kodere Forest near his hometown of Nyamira.

New York, February 18, 2009–The Pakistani government should immediately investigate today’s shooting murder of Geo TV and The News daily correspondent Musa Khankhel in the country’s northwest Swat valley, the Committee to Protect Journalists said today.

New York, February 18, 2009–The Indonesian government should launch an immediate investigation into the death of journalist Anak Agung Prabangsa, a reporter with the Indonesian-language Radar Bali daily, the Committee to Protect Journalists said today.

New York, February 17, 2009–The Committee to Protect Journalists called today for a thorough investigation into a shooting of two journalists on Friday in Mexico. A gunman killed a photographer and injured a reporter in the southern city of Iguala, Guerrero state, according to international news reports. 

There is an often-repeated phrase among journalists: No story is worth dying for, we say. But journalists are dying in every region of the world. In Iraq, in Somalia, in Russia, in Bolivia, in the Philippines, journalists died last year while reporting the news in their countries.

New York, February 9, 2009–Authorities in the Indian Ocean island of Madagascar must bring to justice members of the presidential guard responsible for the killing on Saturday of a journalist covering an antigovernment demonstration in the capital, Antananarivo, the Committee to Protect Journalists said today.
