We issued this statement today after North Korea’s official Korean Central News Agency announced that two American news reporters, Current TV’s Laura Ling and Euna Lee, will be tried for alleged illegal entry into North Korea and hostile acts …
“We are concerned by the reports that Ling and Lee have been charged and will apparently be brought to trial. We call on the North Korean government to explain the circumstances of the detention of these two journalists. We repeat our earlier call for China and North and South Korea and the United States to work together diplomatically to secure the release of these two women,” said Bob Dietz, CPJ’s Asia program coordinator.
