New York, June 26, 2018–The Committee to Protect Journalists today condemned an attack on De Telegraaf, one of the Netherlands’ biggest national newspapers, which came five days after an anti-tank rocket was fired at the offices of the publisher of the weeklies Panorama and Nieuwe Revu, according to news reports.
An unidentified person today rammed a van into the Amsterdam headquarters of the daily and set the vehicle on fire. No one was injured in either of the attacks, the reports said.
“Journalists in the European Union are increasingly at risk because of their reporting,” said CPJ European Union Representative Tom Gibson. “National governments and EU institutions need to find effective ways to protect press freedom.”
