In the February 10 edition of the International Herald Tribune, Canadian-Iranian journalist Maziar Bahari, himself imprisoned in Iran for 118 days, urges Ayatollah Khamenei to release his jailed colleagues.
“I was unfortunate enough to know firsthand how your agents treat journalists,” Bahari writes. “I was kept in your jail for 118 days simply for being a reporter. For much of that time I was tortured. But I do not hold any grudges. I am writing out of concern for my colleagues and the future of our country.”
Bahari’s op-ed, “Let My Colleagues Go“, which can be read in full at the New York Times‘ Web site, is part of a joint campaign entitled, “Our Society Will Be a Free Society”. The campaign comprised of Free Press and Free expression organizations was launched with the goal of securing the release of journalists and writers imprisoned in the wake of last year’s disputed presidential election in Iran
