The Niamey magistrate court granted bail of 10 million CFA (US$22,271) to two French journalists, reporter Thomas Dandois and cameraman Pierre Creisson of the Franco-German ARTE Television. The two were freed after posting bail and received a judicial pardon the following day.
Dandois and Creisson were arrested on December 17 and sent to prison four days later. Authorities accused the journalists of violating the government ban on covering the activities of the rebel group, the Nigerien People’s Movement for Justice.
